Message from the Dean

Welcome home! Regardless of when you graduated and what your major was, I trust that you entered the professional world feeling confident and prepared for the challenges ahead. It is our continuing mission “to be a premier business program that provides students with the lifelong ability to acquire knowledge and translate it into responsible action in a competitive global environment.”

What does that mean for our current students and our alumni? As you know, the business community is increasingly bombarded by information in this interconnected world. In order to flourish in a complex environment, our students must be able to evaluate information critically, work effectively with others in teams, and communicate clearly to customers and co-workers all over the globe. We prepare them for future leadership through:

  • significant opportunities for study abroad, and strengthened international study requirements here on campus;
  • increased emphasis on experiential learning;
  • expanding entrepreneurship programs in several key areas;
  • growing interdisciplinary focus in business programs.

These initiatives have helped us achieve our goal of becoming a top 20 undergraduate business school with excellent, focused graduate programs. In Business Week's 2009 survey of undergraduate business programs, the Farmer School ranked 18th overall and 6th among programs at the nation's public universities. We continue our quest for excellence now that we have moved into our new, world-class building that promises to transform the way we learn, teach, and communicate.

Our 14-month full-time MBA program matriculated its fifth class in May 2009. This fall, we welcome the first class in our Professional MBA program, with evening and weekend classes held at Miami’s new Voice of America Center in West Chester Township.

These developments have increased visibility of the Farmer School and the excellent education we afford our students. Our continued achievements, we hope, will give you new reasons to feel proud of your alma mater. Please visit us often at this web site to learn details of our journey "from good to great" and to find out ways in which you can be involved in this effort.

We also urge you to keep in touch with us! Our “Alumni News” section is designed to accommodate personal and professional updates from you and your fellow alumni. Please take a moment to visit that site and send us your news.
