The Center for Business Excellence will achieve its mission and vision by sponsoring a variety of activities that generate and apply cutting-edge ideas for using integrity, leadership, and transparency to achieve business excellence:
- Research
- Student internships
- Classroom visits by business leaders and regulators
- Professional events
- Lecture series
- Collaborative projects
- International site visits
The Center will tailor all activities to address the most pressing issues impacting integrity, leadership, and transparency in the business world. By doing so, the Center will ensure that its focus remains on the pulse of contemporary business excellence.
The activities of the Center will focus on providing opportunities for interdisciplinary research and curriculum development across Miami University. Additionally, some activities will involve working with faculty from other universities. All activities will be tailored to help Miami University achieve objectives outlined in the University’s Strategic Plan and will change and adapt to evolve as the Strategic Plan evolves.
A variety of activities are planned for The Center for Business Excellence:
- Annual Board of Directors College. This annual event will focus on considering how corporate boards can effectively use integrity, leadership, and transparency to ensure proper oversight of senior management. International thought leaders will be invited to lead sessions based on pressing and emerging issues.
- Annual Executive Conference. This conference will provide a forum for executives and students to discuss strategies for achieving business excellence. Executives will share their personal experiences in applying integrity, leadership, and transparency to enhance long-term shareholder value through improved decision making and stakeholder relationships.
- Annual Student-Led Undergraduate Business Excellence Summit. High-performing undergraduate students from leading international business schools will be invited to Miami to study cases in which integrity, leadership, and transparency lead to business excellence. The Summit is unique in that it will be led by current Miami students and recent alumni completing courses emphasizing the Center’s principles of integrity, leadership, and transparency.
- White-Paper Research Series on Business Excellence. This series will give academics, business leaders, and students the opportunity to address pressing research questions on using integrity, leadership, and transparency to enhance sustainable shareholder value in organizations. The primary intent of the series is to use an interdisciplinary approach to inform and influence policymakers on important issues.
- Innovative Curriculum Development. The Center will sponsor Miami faculty in business and other disciplines in developing complete courses and partial-course modules that emphasize the importance of integrity, leadership, and transparency in making business decisions.. These courses and modules will be developed for undergraduate and graduate students and executives and will be distributed to universities throughout the world. One goal of this initiative is to show how multi-disciplinary perspectives are vital for achieving business excellence.
- Research Grant Program. The Center will fund research studies that address contemporary issues threatening or enhancing business excellence. The funded research will be for long-term studies targeted for publication in leading academic journals and likely will address unresolved research questions from the Center’s White Paper Research Series and will emphasize interdisciplinary research from business and other disciplines. Student involvement in research will be a priority of the Program. Findings from these studies are expected to help business leaders in achieving business excellence.
- International Student Trips and Internships. The Center will help undergraduate and graduate student experience first-hand how organizations apply best practices for integrity, leadership, and transparency. The trips will involve faculty leaders from a variety of disciplines. The Center will provide need-based funding to ensure that students from all socio-economic backgrounds and disciplines can participate.
- Forums, Debates, and Speaker Series. Internationally-renowned thought leaders will be invited to campus to lecture, debate, and interact with academics and students from business and other disciplines, addressing pressing contemporary issues affecting business excellence.
- Executive Education and Hands-On Workshops. Center faculty will work with business executives to share best practices, study cases, and develop and enhance ways of using integrity, leadership, and transparency to create long-term value for stakeholders. This initiative will take an interdisciplinary approach, integrating perspectives from business and other areas as well.
