The Farmer School of Business announced April 18 that KPMG LLP, the audit, tax, and advisory firm; and the KPMG Foundation have committed to a three-year sponsorship of a new curriculum initiative for the Center for Business Excellence at the Farmer School.
The $120,000 sponsorship will fund efforts of faculty members in the Farmer School and other divisions to develop the first in-depth and comprehensive business school curriculum, including pilot courses and class modules, that is focused on and integrates corporate governance, risk management and reporting.
The CBE Curriculum Initiative is designed to be an ongoing program for developing innovative and internationally recognized curriculum that will be used by and benefit the Farmer School, Miami University, and other universities for many years to come.
Farmer School Dean Roger Jenkins noted that “KPMG’s funding of the CBE Curriculum Initiative provides faculty members with an exciting opportunity to build upon the university’s nationally recognized commitment to innovative education.”
“The goal of the CBE Curriculum Initiative is to make the courses and modules publicly available to faculty members at other universities,” said Dr. Dan Heitger, co-director of the CBE. “This access will enhance the reputation of both Miami University and KPMG as the source for innovative curricula that are needed to prepare students for leadership roles in an increasingly complex and competitive business environment.”
Mark Larson, KPMG partner and the firm’s Campus Executive for Miami, stated that “KPMG is pleased to partner with the Center to develop leading edge curriculum. The CBE’s interdisciplinary focus is unique and wholly consistent with KPMG’s values of professionalism and integrity.”
In addition to making this gift, KPMG has pledged to continue its commitment to providing scholarships to Miami students and partnering with the accountancy faculty on several initiatives.
