2006 Executive Conference on Enterprise Risk Management and Reporting

As its first step, the Center for Business Excellence hosted the inaugural Executive Conference on Enterprise Risk Management and Reporting on May 4 and 5 at the Marcum Center. The Conference was co-sponsored by the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and the law firm Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease LLP. The purpose of this Conference was to help attendees better understand the crucial role of senior leadership and corporate governance in developing an effective process for enterprise risk management and transparent business reporting. Center Co-Directors Brian Ballou and Dan Heitger noted that feedback from attendees regarding each of the speakers and the panel discussion suggested that the content and discussion provided an extremely valuable experience.

Executive Conference speakers included Keynote Speaker Larry Rittenberg (Chair of COSO and Professor, University of Wisconsin), Sara Stehlik (Director of Risk Management, Progressive Insurance), Miles Everson (Lead Partner for Enterprise Risk Management in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ New York Governance, Risk, and Compliance Practice) and Sheri West (Director of Socially Responsible Investments for General Electric Investor Relations). A concluding panel discussion featured experts in governance, risk management and reporting, including Mark Kuzma (Chief Risk and Compliance Manager—Asset Management, Mellon Financial Corporation), Charles Landes (Vice President Professional Standards and Services Group for the AICPA and COSO Board Member), Roger Lautzenhiser (Senior Partner of VSSP Public Company Representation) and Dave Phillips (Co-Founder, Cincinnati Works, Multiple Audit Committees, Arthur Andersen LLP-Retired).

Registrants for the Executive Conference included members of audit committees and executives and senior managers from a variety of areas within an organization, including risk management, financial management and treasury, internal audit, and legal counsel.  Participants represented the following organizations: American Electric Power, ChemEd, Chiquita Brands, Cincinnati Financial, Cintas, Convergys, Fifth Third Bank, Hillenbrand, Indiana Executive Systems, Ohio Casualty Corporation, The Petters Group, Procter & Gamble, Simon Property Group, U.S. Bank, WellPoint, and Western & Southern Life.
