Admission to the MAcc Program

Application Information

Application forms for Miami University's Graduate School can be obtained by contacting The Graduate School. Domestic students are encouraged to apply online; online applications can be submitted via The Graduate School's Web site. For the 2009-10 academic year, the deadline for international applications is Nov 1, 2008; for domestic applications the deadline is Feb 1, 2009. Admission is selective so we recommend that you apply early. Applications received after these deadlines will be considered for admission only if space is available.

Admission Requirements

The admissions committee evaluates applicants based on the following criteria:

  1. Undergraduate academic record (university transcript)
  2. GMAT score
  3. TOEFL score (international students)
  4. Three letters of recommendation (at least two must be from professors of upper-level accountancy courses)
  5. Professional, community, and extracurricular activities (resume)
  6. Personal statement*

*Personal statement (1-2 pages) may offer information on your strengths, weaknesses, educational and professional experiences, your achievements and goals, and other qualities that you believe makes you unique. You should discuss how your experiences have prepared you for active involvement in the Miami MAcc program.

Minimum admission requirements (subject to change) include:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • A score of at least 500 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
  • Grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for accountancy prerequisites

Prerequisites

The MAcc program builds on knowledge equivalent to the requirements for a Miami University baccalaureate degree in business with a major in accountancy. Some or all of the prerequisite courses may be waived at time of admission for those who have completed equivalent courses in their undergraduate education and who can demonstrate proficiency. Applicants must have earned a minimum grade of C in each prerequisite course and a 3.0 grade point average or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for all of the following prerequisite accountancy courses.
