Frequently Asked Questions
MAcc Program FAQ
- Do applicants need recommendations? Three letters of recommendation are required for all applicants. At least two of these letters must be from professors of upper-level accountancy courses. The third may be either an academic or a professional reference. Click here to download a recommendation form.
- When are applications due? For the 2009-10 academic year, the deadline for international applications is Nov 1, 2008; for domestic applications the deadline is Feb 1, 2009. Admission is selective so we recommend that you apply early. Applications received after these deadlines will be considered for admission only if space is available.
- When are admission decisions made? Complete applications will be reviewed as they are received. Outstanding applicants will be offered admission on a "rolling" basis. All other admission decisions will be made after February 1, when the applicant pool is identified. We plan to notify all applicants of their admission status in early- to mid-March. Recipients of financial awards will be notified separately.
- Do students
interested in the MAcc need to do anything in their junior year? No, they should only make
sure they are taking the correct coursework for
the MAcc. The courses they need their senior year
are ACC 422, ACC 443, and ACC 453.
- Where should I submit my MAcc application? Online at http://www.miami.muohio.edu/graduate/admission.cfm. Letters of recommendation, resume, and personal statement may be sent directly to Gretchen Radler, 310 Laws Hall, Oxford, OH 45056 or radlergb@muohio.edu.
- Can students
take graduate courses in their undergraduate program
and use them towards the MAcc? No. Graduate courses are restricted to students enrolled in the MAcc program.
- When
should students take the GMAT? Students
may wish to take it the summer before their senior
year to get it out of the way. Current MAcc students
report that they did not feel disadvantaged in taking
it at that time. Alternatively, they can take it
during the December semester break of their senior year. They should register
for it several weeks in advance to ensure they can take the exam at a time that is convenient for them and will also allow time for their scores to arrive at our office.
- Can a
student apply to the program before taking the GMAT? Applications will not be
reviewed until we receive the test score, but students
may apply before taking the exam. We encourage students
to apply early as it will assist us in our planning.
