Accountancy
Board of Ohio Tier One Scholarship
The Tier One scholarship program focuses on encouraging
minorities and financially disadvantaged students
(Ohio residents) to enter the accounting profession.
Financial need is calculated based on the FAFSA criteria;
you need to submit financial need information with
the Tier One application. If interested in these scholarships,
apply directly to the Accountancy Board of Ohio. Students
can apply for Tier One financial assistance beginning
their sophomore year; funds become available for disbursement
upon a student's registration for the fifth year of
the academic program. Please refer to the Accountancy Board's Web site for detailed information
and application forms.
Regents Graduate/Professional
Fellowship Program
About 70 Ohio scholars receive Regents Fellowships
each year with at least one fellowship awarded to
a senior from each eligible Ohio public and private
college/university submitting candidates for consideration.
Fellowships provide $3,500 each year for two years
of full-time graduate/professional study. Ohio resident
students with outstanding academic achievement (rank
among top of class or the percentile placement on
GMAT must be at least 90) are encouraged to apply.
For further information and application forms, contact the Graduate School (513-529-4125).
Graduate Grants-in-Aid
The graduate grants-in-aid, which waive the instructional
fee and out-of-state tuition surcharge (if applicable),
are available for full-time graduate students with
a minimum of 3.0 GPA. There are no stipend payments
and no required duties. You must submit an application
(which includes a financial statement), a one-page
educational goals and career statement, and two letters
of recommendation. Preference is given to first-time
degree seeking students, and the grants-in-aid are
awarded based on merit and financial need. Applications
are available through the Graduate
School (513-529-4125). The deadline for applying
is March 1. There is a separate application for summer
term.
AICPA Scholarships
for Minority Accounting Students
AICPA will award scholarships of up to $5,000 to minority
accounting students showing significant potential
to become certified public accountants. Scholarships
are available to full-time minority undergraduate
or graduate accounting students. Eligible applicants
are minorities of Black, Native American/Alaskan Native,
Hispanic, or of Pacific Island races who are U.S.
citizens. Further information can be found on the AICPA
Web site.
Federal Student
Loans and Work Study
Qualified students may obtain federally guaranteed
student loans and participate in the Federal College
Work-Study Program. To be considered for these programs,
you need to complete a FAFSA form. The FAFSA forms
will be available in the Office of Student Financial
Assistance (OSFA) by the end of December; you can
submit completed forms beginning January 1. You can
also download the form from the OSFA
Web site. If you have any questions regarding
the FAFSA form, contact OSFA (513-529-8734).
Other Loans
Small short-term loans, supported by funds donated
by alumni, faculty, and friends of the university
are also available. Contact the Graduate
School (513-529-4125) for further information.
External Scholarships and Grants
There are other organizations that have money available for students seeking financial assistance to help finance MAcc degrees. Some students have found success using free scholarship search engines such as the ones located at fastweb.com, wiredscholar.com, finaid.org, and srnexpress.com. The common theme appears to be "apply early and often."
Accountancy
Department Fellowship and Graduate Assistantships
All applicants to the MAcc program will be considered for either the fellowship or one
of the assistantships. You DO NOT need to complete the
application for financial award form as mentioned on the Graduate School's website. The fellowship provides
a stipend plus an instructional fee waiver; no duties
are required. The graduate assistantships provide
a stipend and instructional fee waiver and involve
eight hours/week of work. The fellowship and
assistantships are awarded based on merit or merit
and financial need. Decisions on these awards will
be made by the accountancy department after March
1.

These scholarships are awarded to students based on
