Admission

The general admission requirements of Miami University’s Graduate School include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 (out of 4.0). The Department of Economics further requires applicants to submit three letters of recommendation and encourages them to submit scores on the Graduate Record Examination (administered by the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey 08540). In addition, each student entering the M.A. program should have completed, with a grade of C or better, intermediate-level courses in microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, and at least one course in calculus and one course in statistics.

Applicants who fail to meet these requirements may be offered conditional admittance if their record otherwise indicates the ability to complete the program successfully. While deficiencies can be eliminated after enrolling, the necessity to do so will, in most cases, extend the time required to complete the program beyond one year. Interested students are encouraged to contact the Director of Graduate Studies at miamimeco@muohio.edu or 513 529-2836.

Foreign students whose native language is not English must furnish evidence of proficiency in English by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), also administered by the Educational Testing Service.
