Institute for Entrepreneurship

The Miami University Institute for Entrepreneurship is dedicated
toward helping our students discover and exploit their own
entrepreneurial mindset from the recognition of an opportunity to
the execution of a great idea. The Institute consists of four centers,
the existing Page Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, and
introducing the newly created Center for Social Entrepreneurship
and Center for an Entrepreneurial Economy. Recently, the Institute
co-listed three of its courses with other Miami schools, including
Miami’s Western College program, Engineering school, Interactive
Media Studies program, and College of Arts and Sciences.
Recognizing the importance of intergenerational learning through
knowledge transfer and mentoring, the Institute exposes students
to successful entrepreneurs through guest lecturers and involvement
with alumni, where they receive an inside look at the creation of
major ventures.

The Center for Social Entrepreneurship, the first of its kind at the
undergraduate level, includes classroom research, a broad research
agenda, and opportunities for students to create and run social
ventures. The Center for an Entrepreneurial Economy focuses on
the impact of public policy on the entrepreneurial climate, as well as
support to students, staff, and area residents with entrepreneurial
aspirations. This new center is viewed as an economic development
asset for the region and the State of Ohio, in accordance with its
desire to increase the attractiveness of Ohio as a place to start and
grow business.

In the future, the program hopes to achieve educational and
programmatic goals of outreach, pursuing international opportunities
while continuing to help students build their own social networks and
learn from entrepreneurs. We view our program as if it were an
entrepreneurial venture, and therefore believe we have identified the
opportunity, built the team, and assembled the resources to become
the premier undergraduate program in the United States.
