Alumni Q & A

You might be headed to your first marketing class, or your last round of finals before clinching an MBA. Either way, you’ve got questions about what’s next. We spoke to some alumni who’ve been where you are now. For some, that was just two years ago. For others, it’s been over two decades.

We were a little surprised by a few of their answers—refreshingly so. We heard less about the “fast track,” and much more about flexibility. And right up there with financial success seems to be the importance of loving what you do.

We’ll be adding more of our Q & A with alumni as often as we can, so check back with us soon. We thank all of these very busy—and gifted—mentors for making time for today’s FSB students. Their hope, and ours, is that you’ll learn some tips you can use.

Greg Van Kirk '91

At the age of 30, Greg Van Kirk made a bold—and in the eyes of his peers—incomprehensible—decision. After four and a half years in investment banking, he quit his job to join the Peace Corps.

After his stint with the corps ended, Van Kirk stayed on in Guatemala for eight years as a social entrepreneur, co-founding the Community Enterprise Solutions as well as Social Entrepreneur Corps and Ayudasoft LLC. He has been recently honored as an Ashoka Fellow, and now lives with his family in New York City. Read More
