Recruiter surveys show that work experience, prior to an MBA, and internship experience during an MBA are the first and second most important recruiting criteria. The small size of Miami’s MBA program provides students with a unique opportunity to combine curriculum and practice. Each MBA student will be a member of a small team of peers assigned to a project with one of the program’s business partners for an extended internship. These internships will require onsite team work one day per week, as well as off-site work on the project.
All MBA students will receive frequent updates regarding each of the ongoing projects through the business seminar course, which integrates the extended internships with the rest of the program. By keeping all students and faculty up-to-date on each extended internship project, the knowledge gained during the internships can provide an important context for each student and each course. In addition, business partners will be conducting performance reviews based on student accomplishments during the internship.
Host companies for the 2007/2008 Extended Internships include Cintas, Convergys, Draper Triangle Ventures, Fidelity, GE Aircraft Engines (Marketing & Human Resources), NCR, Perfetti Van Melle, and Procter & Gamble (Marketing Purchases & Research & Development).
