The Miami MBA program seeks a diverse group of students—men and women with a record of significant accomplishments as well as potential for success in business.

This potential is assessed through a broad-based review of prior academic performance, professional and life experiences, leadership potential and personal qualities such as maturity, confidence, motivation as well as interpersonal and communication skills. Our admissions process is designed to enable you to demonstrate these through documents you provide in your application and a personal interview. Candidates are encouraged to contact the MBA Program Office at (513) 529-6643 or miamimba@muohio.edu to discuss any admissions criteria.

Academic Performance

All candidates must have a four-year baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and have earned at least a 2.75 grade point average at the institution that awarded the bachelor’s degree or a 3.0 average for the last four semesters of study for the degree.

Two official transcripts of all prior college or university work must be submitted to the with the application. Visit www.miami.muohio.edu/graduate/admission.cfm for additional information and to access the Application for Admission

Transfer credits from other institutions cannot be used to satisfy the requirements of the program.

GMAT

Because it provides a uniform and standardized way of evaluating all candidates, the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is required for admittance. For information on the GMAT and to schedule a test date, visit www.mba.com. The Miami MBA program code is Q6W-8F-14.  If the test has been taken more than once, the highest GMAT score earned will be used. We do not combine individual scores from multiple tests. GMAT scores are valid for five years.

Work Experience

Given the accelerated nature of the Miami MBA, it is essential that students have prior exposure to organizational processes and management; therefore, a minimum of two years of post-baccalaureate work experience earned by the date of matriculation is generally required. Candidates with less experience, but who bring a record of managerial attainment and leadership roles, are encouraged to contact the MBA Program Office at (513) 529-6643 or miamimba@muohio.edu to discuss their work credentials.

Personal Qualities and Capabilities

Many qualities required for success in the Miami MBA as well as future professional success cannot be quantitatively measured, such as motivation, maturity, tenacity, ability to work with others, self-confidence and verbal communication skills. Other factors such as breadth of perspective, international exposure and participation in extracurricular activities are also sought.

To evaluate these, we require completion of three self-written essays, two letters of recommendation and a personal interview.

Essay Questions

Complete the essay questions on separate sheets of paper. Type your answers, double-spaced, and include your name and essay number on each page of your response. Use your best judgment in determining the appropriate length of your essays.

Recommendation Letters

Using the forms provided, submit two recommendations from individuals who can speak directly about your aptitude for graduate study. We find work-related recommendations preferable to academic ones. Ideally recommenders will be current or former supervisors or those in a position to have witnessed your work and accomplishments such as clients, vendors or partners. Supplementary recommendations may be submitted, but only if they add additional insight. Recommendations are to be returned to the MBA Program Office in an envelope with the recommender’s signature across the sealed flap. Note that recommendations are not confidential unless you sign the informed consent waiver.

Interviews

As strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in the MBA program as well as in management positions, interviews play an important role in the assessment of candidates. Members of the MBA Program staff and the Faculty Admissions Committee conduct candidate-initiated interviews on the Miami University campus. Candidates wishing to schedule an interview should contact Paula Recker at reckerpj@muohio.edu or (513) 529-6643. If candidates cannot interview on campus or prior to submitting the application, the MBA Program Office will review the application and contact the applicant if an interview is necessary.

Resume

To assist the Admissions Committee with summary evaluation of credentials, we require a one-page business resume. The resume should accompany the essays and recommendation forms and be sent directly to the MBA Program at the above address.

Application Information for International Students

The Miami MBA program welcomes applicants with citizenship from countries outside the United States.  While all admissions criteria previously described apply, international applicants should also be aware of the following additional requirements:

English Language Requirements

If you are not from a country where English is the native language or if you will not have earned a university degree from an academic institution in a country where English is the native language, proof of English language proficiency is required.  In most cases, applicants will need to present satisfactory scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).  For information about minimal TOEFL score requirements and acceptable alternatives to TOEFL, visit www.muohio.edu/graduate/language.cfm.

Transcripts

Two official transcripts or certified true copies of complete academic records showing all courses completed and grades received at each postsecondary school attended must be submitted.  All academic records not originally issued in English by the school must be submitted in the original language with a certified literal (not interpretive) English translation.  Academic records must list all courses taken, the grades received in these courses, and the academic term(s) and year(s) when these courses were taken.

In addition certification that an undergraduate degree has been or is about to be awarded is required.  Evidence that a university degree at least equivalent to an American bachelor’s degree has been or is about to be earned must be submitted.

Other required documents

A completed Miami University Confidential Financial Statement with supporting documentation from a bank or other financial institution and a completed Miami University Medical Form for International Graduate Students is required before a final admission decision can be issued.

Additional information and forms for prospective international graduate students are available online at:   www.muohio.edu/graduate/admission_international.cfm.
