Trying Out for the Team
|
|
The information session for the 2010-2011 season will take place on Tuesday, September 7 in the Mock Trial Room (Rm 1035 in the Farmer School of Business). Be there at 8pm for more information concerning tryouts and expectations.
Every year, Miami recruits new members to join its program.
Tryouts begin early in the Fall semester of each year. Make sure to keep your
eyes open for Miami's Megafair and postings around campus. Feel free to email
Dr. Herron (herrondj@muohio.edu) at the beginning of the school year to find out any information
concerning tryout dates and required tryout material.

Tryouts typically involve learning a witness
affidavit and/or an opening statement. The purpose of these auditions are for
coaches to assess your natural speaking presence, as well as your ability and
willingness to learn and
participate in Mock Trial. Though not usually lengthy,
tryouts will allow for you to show the program your ability to create a
character for the witness stand and to present a
professional persuasive argument
to strangers.

Current members play an important role in
recruiting and
adjudicating tryout performances. To this end, it will be your
peers and future friends that will help answer any questions you might have
concerning the process.

The Mock Trial Program requires a lot of work with even more
reward. Besides the new
friends and mentors, the program will allow you to
compete in the largest academic competition in the country as well as travel all
over the US. We look forward to seeing you at tryouts!
