Farmer building leads with LEED

The Farmer School of Business building is the first facility on Miami's campus to earn a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The building's "Silver" certification reflects these features:

  • Recycling and/or reuse of most deconstruction materials as part of site development
  • Preservation of many mature trees on the building site
  • Local sourcing of many construction materials
  • Use of low-emission fabrics and surface coatings
  • Maximum use of available light inside the building
  • Energy-efficient design that includes "smart" HVAC and lighting systems
  • Water conservation through low-flow faucets and toilets
  • Conservation and management of rainwater through downspouts and landscaping
  • Maximum possible green space around the building and minimal paving

“The Farmer School's comprehensive facility represents the dreams and hard work of many people within and beyond the university. Welcoming everyone into this world-class building at the start of fall semester 2009 was one of the highlights of my tenure as Dean of the Farmer School of Business."
