A group of 19 intrepid Farmer School undergraduates ventured into the land of bulls and bears the first week of second semester. They returned with first-hand knowledge of the workings of the financial markets, thanks to a program jointly sponsored by the Farmer School and The Royal Bank of Scotland.

Led by Jack Anderson Professor of Finance Mark Griffiths, the group attended seminars presented by financial professionals on topics ranging from equity research to loan markets. The seminars were designed to give students insight into the daily events and responsibilities of an employee, and to highlight interesting cases the represented firms had worked on.

“The Wall Street Week Program is a great experience for this group of Miami students,” said Collin Dawson (’05), a RBS research analyst who helped to organize the program. “The opportunity to network and interact with a diverse group of professionals provides the students with a rare perspective of the financial services industry. My hope is that they can leverage this experience as they move into the working world.”

Students also toured the Financial District, the New York Stock Exchange, and took part in a simulated trading session at Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business.

“In its first two years, Wall Street Week has clearly shown the value of up-close learning for students who plan to work in financial services,” Griffiths said. “Hearing about these professions from practitioners, and spending a week in this exciting environment, are perfect complements to their curriculum.”
