Construction on the new state-of-the-art building for the Farmer School officially began last month with infrastructure installation. On June 20, workers poured concrete for the auditorium wing, providing a photo opp to launch our project photo gallery.
With all contracts let and subcontractors identified, work is proceeding on a schedule that will enable the Farmer School to move into its new home in the summer of 2009. In addition to the 150-seat and 500-seat auditoriums, the 210,000-square-foot building will house case classrooms, cluster and seminar rooms, a trading room, teaching labs, a reading room, breakout rooms for small group meetings, space for the school’s four centers, student organizations offices, a student commons and a food court.
“It will be an incredible step forward for the Farmer School to bring all its departments, centers and programs under one roof at last,” said Dean Roger Jenkins. “The new building is designed to foster an environment within the school that embraces continuous improvement and encourages collegial interaction, creativity and innovative problem solving.”
The design and materials were selected with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards in mind. If LEED certification is obtained, the new building will be the first official “green” structure on the Miami campus.
