Robert McDonald, Chief Operating Officer
Proctor & Gamble

Robert A. McDonald, who has provided leadership at The Procter & Gamble Co. in a range of endeavors from soap production to strategic planning, will speak at Miami University March 6 as part of the Farmer School of Business' Executive Speakers Series. The event is co-sponsored by the Miami chapter of marketing society Pi Sigma Epsilon.

McDonald, Chief Operating Officer for P&G, will discuss inspirational leadership during his lecture, which begins at 4 p.m. at Hall Auditorium. It is free of charge and open to the public.

Within the consumer products industry, McDonald is known for his ability to energize organizations and achieve impressive results by taking a personal interest in the development and success of the people he leads. "Everyone I have ever met wants to succeed," McDonald says. "A leader's job is to catch people succeeding and help them build on that success."

McDonald's career with P&G began in 1980 in the U.S. marketing division, but he subsequently spent 14 years in a variety of global management positions, including assignments in Canada, The Philippines, Japan, and Belgium. He was appointed Vice Chairman, Global Operations, in 2004 and assumed his current position in July 2007.

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, McDonald served as an Army captain for five years, during which he mastered a number of military qualifications and earned the Meritorious Service Medal. He also received an MBA from the University of Utah.
