A Miami graduate will talk about how he has built on his 1988 degree in marketing to become the head of the retirement services unit of a powerhouse financial firm. For the past year, Scott David has served as president of Fidelity Retirement Services, overseeing the marketing, sales, and distribution of defined contribution and defined benefit plans for more than 18 million retirement plan participants in 16,000 organizations.
David’s talk is part of the Farmer School of Business Executive Speakers Series. It will take place at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, in Hall Auditorium.
Immediately after graduation, David began his career at Aetna Capital Management, the money management arm of Aetna Life. Three years later he joined Scudder Investments in New York, where he served in a variety of management positions, ultimately becoming president of U.S. Retirement Services at Scudder, a unit of Deutsche Bank.
In 2003, David left Scudder to join Fidelity. In his current position, he works out of Fidelity’s offices in Covington, Kentucky but spends several days a week at the firm’s headquarters in Boston. He also travels extensively, meeting with customers.
Fidelity Investments is the nation’s largest mutual fund company, with $1.3 trillion in mutual funds under management. It is also the largest provider in the United States of 401 (k) retirement savings plans and a leading provider of 403 (b) retirement plans for non-profit organizations.
The company was founded in 1946 by Edward C. Johnson II, whose operating premise was that, through active investment management and a focus on long-term strategies, his fund could outperform the markets. Fidelity remains in the Johnson family, with Edward C. Johnson III serving as chairman and CEO.
David’s presentation is open to the public free of charge. For information, call 9-6114 or email coopermt@muohio.edu.
