New name, new identity: Along with the center's new name comes a refreshed brand identity which emphasizes the organization's core principles of business excellence.

The Center for Governance, Risk Management and Reporting at the Farmer School of Business has changed its name to the Center for Business Excellence.

Through scholarly, educational, and collaborative activities, the Center for Business Excellence (CBE) strives to be the international academic thought leader in helping current and future business leaders manage and respond to stakeholder expectations through effective business decisions by balancing three key elements: Integrity, Leadership, and Transparency.

Founded in April 2006 as the Center for Governance, Risk Management, and Reporting, the center changed its name to the Center for Business Excellence in April, 2008 to better reflect the center's growing goals and initiatives. The center plans to continue to increase its reach over the next several years as it rolls out its many initiatives and programs.

“Issues of governance, risk management, and reporting are integral to the center’s focus,” said Dr. Brian Ballou, center co-director. “These issues, however, are interrelated with others that are essential for excellence in business, and we wanted our name to represent a more comprehensive view.”

In addition to hosting its third, highly successful executive conference April 24-25, the CBE will present its first Business Excellence Summit in July. The two-day event will involve select students from top accounting programs in the U.S. and abroad who will study cases and participate in decision simulations that illustrate best practices in leadership, integrity, and transparency.

“Ernst and Young is our partner in this inaugural Business Excellence Summit, and we are very excited about the event’s potential as both a teaching tool and a forum for developing leadership,” said CBE co-director Dr. Dan Heitger.
