Three members of the Farmer School’s accountancy faculty have been honored this month for the quality of their research publications.
Associate professor Tim V. Eaton and co-author Michael D. Akers (Marquette University) were given one of three Max Block Distinguished Article awards by the editors of The CPA Journal for their article that appeared in the journal’s June 2007 issue.
“Whistleblowing and Good Governance: Policies for Universities, Government Entities, and Nonprofit Organizations,” underscores the need for whistleblowing policies for those institutions, organizations and agencies, gives a practical framework for developing and implementing a whistleblower policy, and provides a broad range of authoritative resources.
The annual awards, named in honor of a man regarded as a visionary in the accounting profession, recognize “innovative and stimulating” articles published in The CPA Journal.
Receiving a Certificate of Merit from the Institute of Management Accountants were faculty members Brian Ballou and Dan Heitger. An article they co-authored, “Integrating Governance, Risk Management, and Reporting to Create Long-Term Value,” published in the IMA’s Strategic Finance magazine, was judged among the magazine’s best in 2007.
“We congratulate these three members of our faculty on the excellent quality of their research,” said Marc Rubin, chair of the Department of Accountancy. “Not only do they contribute to their profession through submissions to top-tier publications; they also relate their research to what they teach in the classroom.”
The undergraduate and graduate accountancy programs at Miami’s Farmer School of Business consistently rank among the nation’s best programs in annual assessments by Public Accounting Report. In the most recent survey, the undergraduate program was ranked 11 and the Master of Accountancy program ranked 18.
