Donald Sinclair Bolon, professor emeritus of management, passed away May 31, 2008 at the age of 77. He was a member of the management faculty at Ohio University for 19 years before coming to Miami in 1976. He retired in 1999.

Bolon, the author of articles on problem solving, performance evaluation, and productivity, also wrote scholarly works with his son, Dr. Douglas Bolon, a member of the OU faculty. He was a member of the Oxford Kiwanis Club and an elder at Oxford Presbyterian Church.

Jim Brock (ECO) was quoted in a story in the Cincinnati Enquirer about how the continuing rise of fuel prices is spreading throughout the economy.

Jim Coyle (MKT), Stephen J. Gould, Pola Gupta, and Reetika Gupta’s paper, “To Buy or to Pirate: The Matrix of Music Consumers’ Acquisition-Mode Decision Making,” has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Business Research.

Jim Coyle and Stephen J. Gould's paper, "Internet Integrated Marketing Communications: Theory and Practice," is included in the recently published book, Internet Advertising: Theory and Research (Erlbaum: 2007) as Chapter 4.

Maria Cronley (MKT) is co-chair of the 2008 Annual National Conference of the Society of Consumer Psychology.

Maria Cronley, along with colleagues in Arts and Science, Education, and Engineering received an OARS Research Grant in the amount of $49,980. The grant is titled “Psychophysiology: A Window Into The Mind.”

George Davis (ECO) was quoted in a May 21 Cincinnati Enquirer article about employment, “Area’s jobless rate falls: 7,400 new jobs in April big help.”

Devon DelVecchio (MKT) and Tim Heath’s (MKT) paper, “An Experimental Test of Brand Insulation against Competitor Attacks: Effects of Consumer Heterogeneity and Residual Desire,” has been accepted for publication in Psychology & Marketing.

Tim V. Eaton (ACC) and co-author Michael D. Akers were winners of one of the 2007 Max Block Distinguished Article awards presented by The CPA Journal. The awards recognize excellence in three categories that reflect the journal’s mission. Their article, “Whistleblowing and Good Governance: Policies for Universities, Government Entities, and Nonprofit Organizations,” (June 2007) was recognized in the policy analysis category.

Byron Finch (MGT) was inducted into the select Midwest DSI Fellows at the April 2008 Midwest Decision Sciences Institute. The recognition, according to the official notification, is awarded to “active or historical supporters of the regional Institute for outstanding service.”

Megan Gerhardt’s (MGT) article, "Exploring Mechanisms in the Personaltiy-Performance Relationship: Mediating Roles of Self-Management and Situational Constraints," has been accepted for publication in Personality and Individual Differences.

Mark Griffiths (FIN) has been named one of the special issue editors for the Journal of Operations Management, showcasing the connection between operations management and entrepreneurship.

Tim Heath (MKT), Subimal Chatterjee, and Junhong Min’s paper, “The Susceptibility of Mental Accounting Principles to Evaluation Mode Effects,” was accepted for publication in the Journal of Behavioral Decision Making.

Clay Hock (ACC) and Chuck Carpenter’s article, “The 150-Hour Requirement’s Effect on the CPA Exam,” was published in the June 2008 issue of The CPA Journal Online.

Jill Kickul (MGT/ESP), Saulo Barbosa, and Brett Smith’s (ESP) paper, “The Road Less Intended: Integrating Entrepreneurial Cognition and Risk in Entrepreneurship Education,” was accepted for publication in the Journal of Enterprising Culture.

Jill Kickul, T. Iakovleva, S. Barbosa, and Brett Smith’s (ESP/MKT) paper, “Sailing Around the World: Cultural and Environmental Influences on Entrepreneurial Risk Perceptions of Sinking-the-boat and Missing-the-boat,” was accepted for presentation at the 28th Babson-Kaufman Entrepreneurship Research Conference, Chapel Hill, NC.

Gillian Oakenfull (MKT) and Mike McCarthy’s (MKT) paper, “Examining the Relationship between Brand Usage and Brand Knowledge Structures,” has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Brand Management.

Brett Smith (MKT/ESP), Chuck Matthews, and Mark Schenkel’s paper, “Differences in Entrepreneurial Opportunities: The Role of Tacitness and Codification in Opportunity Identification,” has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Small Business Management.

Brett Smith, Jill Kickul (ESP/MGT), and Linda Coley’s (MKT) chapter, “Social Entrepreneurship Education: Using Simulation to Develop Empathy and Motivate Agency,” was accepted for the Handbook of Entrepreneurship Education, Third Edition.

Brett Smith, Terri Barr (MKT), S. Barbosa, and Jill Kickul’s (MGT/ESP) paper, “Social Entrepreneurship: A Grounded Learning Approach to Social Value Creation,” was accepted for publication in the Journal of Enterprising Culture.

Tom Speh (MKT) was one of two Miami University professors who received the university’s Benjamin Harrison Medallion during May commencement exercises. The Harrison Medallion is presented to faculty or staff members who have made outstanding national contributions to education.

Jim Stearns (MKT), Shaheen Borna, and Kian Emamalizadeh’s paper, “Retail Store Image, Bona Fide Occupational Qualifications and Job Discrimination: Establishing the Essence of the Business for Retail Organizations,” was accepted for publication in the Marketing Management Journal.

Teresa Wagner (MGT) had three articles accepted for a special issue of The Journal of Information Systems Education. They were “A Methodology to Assist Faculty in Developing Successful Approaches for Achieving Learner Centered Information Systems Curriculum Outcomes: Team Based Methods,” “From Teaching to Learning: Learner-Centered Teaching and Assessment in Information Systems Education,” and “Why Is the Learner-Centered Paradigm So Profoundly Important for Information Systems Education?”

Charlie Watson (MGT) and Thomas Indinopulos’s book, “Are You Your Own Worst Enemy?” has been reviewed and discussed in both the Cincinnati Enquirer and The Tablet, the weekly newspaper of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
