Winter Course in Oklahoma with the Miami Nation

with the Miami Nation of Oklahoma

During the winter break, 4 credit hours including ESP 490 (3) “Special Topics in Entrepreneurship – with the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma” and BUS 499 (1) “Culture, History, and Economics of the Miami Nation”

Additional optional course, MGT 499 (1 credit) “Cross Cultural Manage-ment Topics of Native American Subcultures” will involve reading and critiquing a series of articles and writing a detailed research paper.

A few course highlights:

  • Hands-on interdisciplinary business analysis of small businesses owned by the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. 
  • Earn credit which meets professional electives or entrepreneurship minor requirements. 
  • Perform field analysis, working in student teams. Report results to both the Miami Nation and to your class/professor.
  • Learn about the culture of the Miami Nation and experience a small, unique nation (tribal) within a large nation’s (USA) political and legal system.
  • Work with managers and professional business people employed by Miami Nation Enterprises (MNE, Inc.), a holding company chartered/incorporated by the Miami Tribe.
  • Two-day field trip to experience Native American and Oklahoma culture.

Please note:

Students pay Miami University tuition and fees similar to per credit hour summer cost.  Some needs-based financial aid support is available. Enrollment is limited to about 16 junior/senior FSB students.
