About the I:\ Drive

What is it?

The I:\ Drive location is a PRIVATE area allocated to every faculty and staff member in the School of Business. This location physically resides on a server (SBACLUSTER) that is maintained by SBA Information Technologies in 201 Laws Hall.

Why should I use it?

Due to the fact that the server is backed up each evening, the I:\ Drive presents itself as a more reliable location for one's data to reside as opposed to one's local C:\ Drive. In the event of critical hardware failure on the server, SBA Information Technologies would be able to restore data using the tape backups. In contrast, if your local C:\ Drive experiences hardware failure, it would be impossible to recover any lost data.

Viruses are becoming a serious threat in today's computing environment. Therefore, the I:\ Drive runs constant virus protection. As you place data on the I:\ Drive or retrieve data from the I:\ Drive, the data is scanned for viruses preventing any virus spreading. While your individual computer does run virus protection, the I:\ Drive guaruntees the ability to scan for the latest viruses.

Avoid the hassle of transferring your files when receiving a new system.

Using FTP Access, you can access your I:\ Drive from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.

The I:\ Drive's privacy ensures only you will have access to your personal data.

About the G:\ Drive

What is it?

The G:\ Drive location is a PRIVATE area allocated to every faculty and staff member in the School of Business. This location physically resides on a server that is maintained by SBA Information Technologies in 201 Laws Hall. If you would like your students to have access to your G:\ Drive, you must contact the SBA IT department and make a request to do so.

Why should I use it?

If you give your students access to the G:\ Drive, you and your students can access it from our network, or through a web browser from any internet connection. The G:\ Drive provides a convenient space for faculty and students to exchange data/files. You can post assignments, notes, etc., and your students can view/download them, as well as turn in assingments electronically into your designated folder (identified by your Miami UniqueID).
