Global Strategic Sourcing

The goal of the Purchasing and Materials Management course (MGT 432) is to teach students how companies consider outsourcing decisions, strategic sourcing, value/cost analysis, supplier selection and management and negotiations. In addition, as a senior-level course it integrates these topics with other supply chain areas, notably global logistics, inventory management and supplier quality. The course includes an applied project that requires a team of students to analyze real world purchasing and supply chain issues faced by private companies and government entities. The projects provide real world experience for students as they simultaneously receive classroom instruction; the resulting synergy between the two sharpens their understanding of the role purchasing and supply chain management plays within an organization. The participating companies benefit from having talented students with fresh perspectives helping to solve existing business problems.
