The University Honors Program will accept up to two departmental/divisional honors courses (of at least 3 credit hours or more) towards the University Honors Requirements. Farmer School of Business Honors courses end in a “C.” Given that the “C” courses are taken in sequence, the University Honors Program will count your first two: BUS 101C and MIS 235C.
There are also some University Honors courses that count for the School of Business requirements. University Honors Courses typically end in an “H.” (Note: Except for MKT 291H, you are not required to take the “H” section of these courses). Examples of past courses include: COM 135H, ECO 201H, ECO 202H and MKT 291H. A course being offered in the past does not guarantee that it will be offered in the future. Special topics honors courses in Business may be offered any semester.
Students will be recognized at the School of Business divisional commencement ceremony.
Students in the School of Business Honors Program have the option of joining the student organization known as the, Honors Business Association (HBA). The HBA is an extension of the School of Business Honors Program designed to enhance the analytical and consultative skills necessary to excel in the business world. The HBA provides its members the opportunity to gain first hand experience by engaging in business consulting projects.
ESP 467C is a Farmer School of Business Honors Program course that students can take and use the coursework as a basis for writing a thesis; however, any student can write a thesis regardless of whether they take the course or not. Refer to the University Honors BlackBoard Site for more information regarding general thesis guidelines, policies, and forms. In order to receive University Honors credit for the thesis, students will need to do one of the following in the spring semester: (1) enroll in an independent study to revise the capstone project or to extend it in some substantive way; (2) revise and hone the project for a national entrepreneurship competition; (3) create a case study or reflective essay on the knowledge gained in developing the capstone project. Refer to the instructor of ESP 467C (Joseph A. Kayne) for more information about how you can use your coursework as the basis for completing a thesis.
University Honors students may apply for and use a Summer Tuition Waiver for one summer during their time at Miami. The waiver promotes intensive full-semester or full-year study abroad. The waiver can be used to cover eight credit-hours of tuition for a Miami-sponsored summer study abroad program or for summer courses at a Miami campus. Students who use the waiver must commit to studying abroad for a full fall or spring semester or for a full academic year sometime before or after using the waiver. Students must apply with the University Honors Program late in the fall semester or early in the spring semester to use the waiver. Applications to use the waiver are reviewed on a rolling basis. They are competitive and evaluated based on the quality of the educational plan you propose. No application is guaranteed approval. Consult with the University Honors Program for particular details and policies governing the Summer Tuition Waiver. Although you can use the Waiver for courses in any discipline, the Farmer School of Business offers numerous quality summer workshops abroad that qualify for use with this waiver.
