The Howe Writing Initiative(HWI) is a collaborative project between Miami University's Department of English and the Farmer School of Business, designed to enhance the quality of student writing in the School of Business. The HWI assists both FSB professors in the teaching of writing and FSB students in the improvement of their writing skills.

About the HWI

The HWI is available for one-on-one or group consultations with business students. Our consultants can assist students with a variety of writing projects, including FSB class assignments, resumes and cover letters, or scholarship, internship, and graduate school applications. Please see the contact information section to schedule an appointment. When you come in for a consultation, please bring your draft, assignment sheet or prompt, and any questions or concerns you have.

The HWI can also assist FSB faculty interested in incorporating writing assignments into their curricula. We can observe classes and make suggestions for writing assignments based on course content, meet with faculty individually to discuss existing writing assignments, present course-specific writing information to classes, meet with faculty to discuss the grading of writing assignments, and much more. While we welcome faculty members to stop by our office, we also suggest making appointments to meet with us so we can prepare for your visit.
