We’re very pleased that you are interested in the China Business Program (CBP) at Miami University. We will be accepting applications through First Year Orientation for incoming students on a first-come, first-served basis. After that, spaces can be offered, based on availability, to upperclassmen who are able fulfill the language requirement. You are encouraged to submit your application as soon as possible.
The application process for CBP is very simple. Please provide the information requested on the next page. This serves as your application and will be reviewed and processed the China Program directors, Dr. David Yen and Felice Marcus.
You will be expected to take Chinese 101 and 102 your first year at Miami, followed by Chinese 201 and 202 your sophomore year. You will register for Chinese 101 during your orientation session this summer. If you have other Chinese language experience, these requirements may be adjusted for your particular background.
You are strongly encouraged to live in Miami’s Chinese Living Learning Community or to participate in its activities. This residential community will help you get to know other program participants and will give you an introduction to Chinese life and culture.
For one semester of your junior year you will study at a Chinese university, and will participate in a summer internship with a company doing business in China.
If you would like to polish your skills in Mandarin, you may continue your language studies during junior and senior years.
Throughout the program you will meet and learn from China specialists, and attend seminars focusing on business in China. As a senior, you will complete a special capstone project.
No. The program is an enhancement to the business major you select, giving you international experience in a country whose global importance continues to grow. Program requirements will not interfere with the requirements of your chosen major.
There are no special costs associated with participation in the program until your junior year semester in China. You will begin planning for that experience during your sophomore year, when an estimate of costs will be available. As your junior year approaches, the School’s advising office, along with the CBP directors, will work with you to ensure that you are prepared for the semester in China, both academically and financially.
If you decide not to pursue a business degree at Miami, or if you decide that China Business is not for you, there is no penalty for withdrawing from the program.
We need to hear from you as soon as possible, because the CBP program is limited to 40 students each year. Below is a list of information we will need from you in order to consider you for the program.
We will confirm that we have received your information as soon as it arrives and we will be available during summer orientation to answer your questions. A meeting for all new accepted participants will be scheduled for early September.
You will be informed of your admission status by July 16 for incoming freshman, and on a rotating basis for upperclassman.

Here is what we need from you. Please prepare as a Microsoft Word document and send it as an attachment in an e-mail to felice.marcus@muohio.edu:
